Punctuation

At some point in any sentence you have to give the sentence time to express itself. The sentence expresses itself through forms of punctuation. Any form of punctuation also gives the reader and audience a feel for what is being said. Punctuation gives a sentence an entire new meaning by simply using different types of punctuations. Thomas gives a few pointers on punctuation. For example he suggests that there are really only four punctuation marks that posses an informal stop. These stops require that the reader, stop reading or reciting briefing in between words. I actually agree with these stops but I believe that the exclamation mark and question mark are also stops. They give the reader a more in depth approach for the sentence and show them how to express the sentence correctly. So if it is giving the sentence meaning, it should be considered as a stop.

I found Lynch’s guide to grammar interesting. In one point he says he prefers to use eager over anxious because anxious is related to the term anxiety. I never thought of the word that way and can understand how the use of it can be confusing in writing. One that I have always had a hard time with is can not. Lynch says it is always one word “cannot” and not two. I think that it is two words and not one. In my learning when one uses contractions such as, “She shouldn’t be angry”, this contractions has two words, should and not, and if broken apart should be used as such. This one is confusing to me. I’ll just leave it to the individual teacher on how they prefer to have contractions handled.

Writing IS actually hard for some and easy for others. The process of finding a topic requires the most in depth work of all. When there is something for me to focus on it makes writing easier. I have to ask myself questions about the topic and then try to compare things in my life to the topic or things that I have experienced before and then I am able to continuously write. However, when I am given an assignment that suggests I write about anything, I find it very hard to think about topics, or good topics. I usually think about what’s going on in my life at the time, or what has happened to me that day, this usually gives me a broad topic that I have to narrow down to one and then I can use personal experience to lengthen the topic. In regards to forcing myself to do things, I am actually a person that hates to wait last minute to do things. However, I find myself waiting to the last minute to complete assignments sometimes. That’s mostly because I have children that require my attention every day with their assignments. So in actuality I am not procrastinating, I am just putting aside my work to make sure that they don’t fall behind. I choose to go back to school after I had children and they shouldn’t suffer because of my delay.

I actually agree with Murray in regards to being suspicious of criticism and praise. We too often rely on the opinions of others that we possible make changes to our essays based on the opinions of others. These changes all to often are unnecessary and usually makes a person change the entire essay and deter from their true feeling of the essay to make the reader happy. I too have made such changes and on the other end have disregarded opinions of classmates about my writing assignments. I recall being told once that my assignment was not on topic but it actually was a subtopic of the topic so it was clear, but that particular reader wanted the entire paragraph to stay on one topic and no subtopics or details. This would have made me be a repeater of details in the paragraph which would make the paragraph boring. I feel you should trust your instinct and believe in yourself.

Paranoid America??

After 9/11 Americans and the world has become more paranoid mainly because people have become more afraid of what they don’t understand which is Islam and terrorism. With this fear of terrorist, Americans reject the need to understand Islam, they stereotype and fear all who live their lives under Islam. With the rising trouble from the war it doesn’t help with the mind set of Americans, they fear terrorism will strike again and will be worst than the last. Along with all this other trouble we have the fear from nuclear threats from
Iran and North Korea and many Americans feel its because of the war. Now with the Government losing its respect and trust from Americans it also rises the paranoia that increases everyday. Americans these days know a terrorist attack will occur and they assumed this whether it’s true or not and to be honest no matter if the war ends or treaties are signed the severity of the paranoia would not allow americans nor the world to believe their countries are safe due the current war, the current world problems and 9/11.

I believe that the reviewers are neither against nor for this movie. They appear to give parents strong encouragement to carefully pay attention to certain parts of the movie that may be too much for their individually child or children. It is important for parents to consider their child’s age and level of maturity before considering allowing them to watch this movie.

In “Our Take”, the reviewers appear to show more favor to the movie than against it. However, they use different terms to identify the scariest parts of the movie. The choice of wording makes you believe that they are for the movie and not against it. It is unclear of their perceptive of the movie as a whole, but they have a charming way of analyzing the movie to their audience.

Crop Circles/ Blog 4

Summary:

Crop circles are defined as organized patterns of energy. Crop circles mostly appear in fields of wheat, barley and canola. Many eyewitnesses report shafts of light circled around crops. Crop circles have existed since late 17^th century but they weren’t taken seriously until 1980 and have increased in size over the years. Two elderly men named Doug and Dave also known as D & D were originally believed to have created all crop circles but could show no proof of such. Six years later one member admitted that he was “guided by an unknown force.”

Critique:

In the article, The Crop Circle Circular by Freddy Silva, the author states that crop circles have existed for many centuries and were once thought to be a hoax. Research has showed that it is impossible to be a hoax. The author uses research to prove his point and has successfully done such. He states, “Genuine crop circles are not perfectly round but slightly elliptical ( a hoax could not achieve this adequately).”Crop circles encode obscure theorems based on Euclidian geometry.”

Bloom vs Almond

Bloom insists that literature is suffering from writers that are lacking to maintain the quality of literature. Great writers such as Shakespeare are being replaced with writers on a lower level of experience and creativity like Behn. Almond on the other hand believes that all writers are good writers but in different ways. People are lacking an interest in literature today because the culture lacks creativity.

It is impossible to agree completely with either Bloom or Almond. Both are correct to a certain extent. With technology at an all time high, true art like literature no longer are of focus to society. Game systems and other electronics are flashed on television every minute between any shows. Therefore the interest of what is seen most increases and that which is seen less or unknown stands no chance.

Live Your Life

We are all full of thick layers of skin covering our organs, bones and muscles. Underneath the layers who is really in their? No one knows the answer to that but that person. It is impossible to determine who a person really is by looking at them or reading their work, or hearing their voices. Ideas or misconceptions can be made of the person, but who they are is much deeper. Throughout life and interactions with some people I have been able to come to an open minded decision of my views about that person. For instance, I have misjudged my uncles for many years. My cousins and I felt threatened and intimidated by them. I had four and they all were military me. Only one of them was always the coolest, but the others were strict no smiles and no fun kind of men. It wasn’t until I became an adult that I saw them as very down to earth people. So I misjudged them at that time. I myself have been misjudged. I appear to me a very quiet or even mean person. Some may see me as intimidating. However, I am not at all that. Like many, I can be if pushed to that point, but for the most part I am a very caring, helpful compassionate and considerate person. I try my best to keep peace and do what I am asked to do by everyone. Even if I am at my lowest, I do for others. I have a very close friend that is going through hard times and no matter what I am in, I listen and offer sound advice sometimes. Advice is not always needed just a listening ear. To those that know me, I am like mother goose. My house is filled with love. Even though I yell at the kids from time to time, it doesn’t stop them from being around me because they know that’s just me and that no matter what I will do anything for them.

Life discriminates against no one. Everyone has been dealt a hand that they have to play. I am a young married mother. I am comfortable with my current situation and self. I am not content. Being content means there is no chance of change, but being comfortable means its okay for now but after a while comfort can be found elsewhere. There is nothing in life that you can control or have choices in. God has created every one of us with special intentions. Everyone was not meant to be millionaires; wealth for us comes in other forms. Everyone was not meant to be movie stars, singers, or CEO’s of a fortune 500 company; our stardom comes in other forms. We have to find our purpose in life and use what it is that we were given to activate it. Things will happen whether it is good or bad. You just can’t go through life trying to stop the inevitable. You have to LIVE your life to its fullest and LOVE yourself no matter what. You can not please everyone. You can only please yourself. Someone close to me always complained about their significant other having so many issues and that they were tired of dealing with it. I listened for years about it and one day it hit me. I was tired of holding back and felt that this person needed to hear what I had to say. I kindly told them that I understand what they are saying, but we can’t continue to have the same conversation. If anything needs changing you have to make that change. We can not expect people to change for us. It is their life to be how they choose to be. What we can do is either accept the bitter with the sweet or remove ourselves from the situation. You can not please everyone. You can only please yourself, and that sometimes can be road kill.

I choose this blog because it was one that was more personal for me. I can relate on many levels to this.

I went through and eliminated some points and added new ones. As well as I gave a few examples to help with understanding.

What is in a Name?

It is impossible to determine who a person really is by reading their work, or even looking at them. However a general idea can be made about a person with first contact. In some case that can be right or wrong. I am that rare case. Most people judge me by my cover. Never judge a book by its cover. My cover shows a quiet or even mean person. For most of my life, I have been the most loving, compassionate and considerate person I know. I try my best to keep peace and do what I am asked to do by everyone. Even if I am at my lowest, I do for others. I want to be seen for who I am nothing more, nothing less. Yet, I have learned that I am not physically able to take care of everyone else’s problems. I listen and give sound advice from a non-bias point of view. At some point I realized that those people that want my help are almost always never available to me when I need someone.

That is how I came to “Live and Love”. In life you have no control over anything. Things will happen whether it is good or bad and there is no reasoning to it. You just can’t go through life trying to stop the inevitable. If it is going to happen it will. You have to LIVE your life to its fullest and LOVE yourself no matter what. You can not please everyone. You can only please yourself.

My family motivates me. Nothing is more important to me. Without family you have nothing.
